- Dec 1, 2009 - President Obama has announced he will approve sending 30,000 more US military troops to Afghanistan.
A+: To the dismay of his supporters and liberals worldwide, President Obama finally made the decision to send more troops. This is certainly not what most Obama supporters expected when voting for him. However, considering the effectiveness of the US troop surge in Iraq, the same attempt must be made in Afghanistan. America has no choice but to defeat the enemy who attacked it on 9-11-01. So sending more troops is the right decision. Pulling out troops now and retreating would be a monumental mistake giving terrorists around the world a boost of confidence causing only more and frequent attacks. Remember President Obama did campaign that the real war should be fought in Afghanistan, not Iraq. He has now backed up his words with actions.
- March 14, 2009 - President Obama backs Bush's policy regarding Afghanistan jail prisoners in Bagram Airfield. The Obama administration sided with the Bush White House by contending that detainees in Afghanistan have no constitutional rights. In a two-sentence court filing, the Justice Department agreed that detainees at Bagram Airfield cannot use U.S. courts to challenge their detention. There are currently about 600 detainees at Bagram Air Base.
A: To the dismay of many Obama supporters, liberal voters and human rights advocates, Obama continues the tough Bush tactics in the war on terror. To date, Obama is all business in keeping the stern message for the enemy. Give Obama credit for making a decision where most likely he knew many of his supporters would not be happy. But this certainly is the right call to ensure the safety of Americans and maintaining the path to victory in the war on terror.
- Feb 18, 2009 - President Obama has approved and authorized to send an additional 17,000 US troops for the Afghanistan war. The Pentagon outlined an addition of 12,000 combat forces, and said 5,000 support troops would be identified later.
A+: Bold move by Obama. He has listened to the feedback and calls for help from the top US military officials in Afghanistan. As explained below. This move is necessary in order to win the war against terrorism.
- Feb 16, 2009 - President Obama has moved forward with the George W Bush process of sending more troops to Afghanistan. Close to 3,000 American soldiers recently arrived in Afghanistan to secure two violent provinces near Kabul. They have begun operations and are already seeing combat. The new troops are the first wave of an expected surge of reinforcements this year. U.S. commanders have been contemplating sending up to 30,000 more soldiers to bolster the 33,000 already here
A+: After years of Afghanistan being under control by U.S. armed forces, recently there has been a spike in terrorist acts and a regrouping of Al-Qaida. So this move by Obama is the right decision. It is desperately needed. Remember how effective the 2007 troop surge was in Iraq where the war is all but over
