Education
 - March 10, 2009 - President Obama has declared he wants to reward good teachers. He backs the idea of merit pay for the best school teachers — a position that his union supporters are against. Obama claimed “It is time to start rewarding good teachers and stop making excuses for bad ones.” Teacher unions have strongly opposed bringing such a system to public education. But Obama disagrees and says now is the time to do just that.
A: This is what America is all about, rewarding people who succeed through hard work and dedication. Many of the U.S. public schools need major improvement and one of the best ways to do so is having effective teachers who care. Implementing a merit pay based system will certainly give teachers the incentive to perform to the best of their ability which ultimately will benefit the students. But here is another issue that many Obama supporters are disappointed with. He received heavy support from the teachers union who has made it clear they disagree with this merit system.
