There is an obvious double standard when comparing the criticism George W Bush took to that of Obama is receiving on actions taken by both Presidents regarding specific issues. Will Michael Moore come out with a movie about Obama like he did with Bush? Why is the media not covering these actions by Obama? Will Hollywood make a point of this in their next "Yes We Can" music video?
In addition to President Obama's countless speaking blunders in such a short period of time as President, there are these actions that raises the question...What If Bush Had Done That?
Speaking blunders: see "Speaking Skills" page
New Orleans: George W Bush caught a lot of heat during the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans, LA. Obviously unfair and unreasonable to entirely blame Bush considering it was the LA. local and state government, as well as the behavior of many New Orleans citizens, that contributed poorly and failed to act accordingly during such an event. But it seems that Obama has gotten a pass on New Orleans. The Obama administration has not delivered on promises to restore the coast. In fact, no major coastal restoration initiatives have been launched by Obama in the first ten months of his presidency. Obama took 10 months before making his first trip to New Orleans on Oct 15 and that was only a four-hour stop on his way to a Democratic $3 million fundraiser. Ironically Obama had rallied against the Bush administration for abandoning and then neglecting the people of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
Fundraisers: Just nine months into his presidency, President Obama has appeared at 23 Democratic fundraisers, compared with George W. Bush, who did 6 political fundraisers, during his first year in office. It should be noted that Bush raised $48 million in those six fundraisers, while Obama raised $21 million in his first 20.
Afghanistan: Some have even gone so far as to call George W Bush a "murderer" even though he was simply protecting America from the terrorists who killed nearly 3,000 lives on Sept 11, 2001. However, it is President Obama that has continued the aggressive approach. First in February of 2009, President Obama sent an additional 17,000 US troops to Afghanistan. He has also ordered several times the use of drone bombings. In fact Obama has ordered more drone attacks (when combining Pakistan and Afghanistan drone attacks) in 10 months than George W. Bush did during his entire 8 years (two terms). These attacks have left many Pakistan and Afghan civilians injured or killed. Unfortunately the killing of innocent civilian is, always was, and always will be part of any war.
Playing Golf: According to CBS' Mark Knoller — an unofficial documentarian and statistician of the White House, President Obama tied previous President Bush in the number of rounds of golf played in office: 24. Obama hit the 24 mark just in 10 months of office where George W Bush took nearly 3 years (2 yrs & 10 months).
Snubbing the Dalai Lama:. For the first time in 18 years, the Dalai Lama did not meet the U.S. president. Tibet’s exiled religious leader — was ignored President Obama in favor of communist China. In nearly nine months in office, President Obama has found time to meet with Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega and Vladimir Putin. But he brushed aside the Dalai Lama, a peaceful religious leader who has long been a friend to the U.S. and an advocate of human rights for China's six million Tibetans.
Freezing out a TV network (Fox news): The Obama administration is perceived by many as "whiners" in this case. This is so because the great majority of the media overwhelmingly covers Obama in a positive way. Fox news is one of the few news outlets that often challenges and questions Obama's decisions. In contrast, for 8 years George W. Bush was heavily criticized from most of the media, especially the left wing cable news network of MSNBC. However Bush rarely challenged or confronted the right to free speech like Obama has. Obama's White House even announced it had deemed Fox to be not a “legitimate news organization.” A bad move on their part considering FOX News is consistently doubling the ratings of other cable news networks. When making his case against Fox News, President Obama failed to point out the fact that almost 50% of the Fox News audience is Democrat or Independent.
